Under what circumstances do animals need timely injection of iron dextran?
Animals need timely injection of iron dextran under the following circumstances:
1. Iron deficiency anemia in young animals
Piglets: Injection is required within 3 days after birth, as the body's iron stores are depleted and the iron content in sow's milk is low, which easily leads to anemia.
Lambs: When obvious symptoms of iron deficiency appear (such as visible pale mucous membranes, rapid breathing), iron dextran or iron dextran injection can be administered, and if necessary, repeated after one week.
2. Lactating animals
Lactating sows: From day 85 of pregnancy to weaning, adding iron-rich supplements (containing organic iron, astragalus, etc.) to the feed or intramuscular injection of iron dextran can improve iron deficiency anemia in sows and increase hemoglobin content in piglets.
3. Chronic blood loss or intestinal absorption disorders
Chronic blood loss: Such as traumatic bleeding, parasitic infections, etc., leading to depletion of iron stores in the body.
Intestinal absorption disorders: Diseases such as lack of gastric acid, chronic diarrhea, etc., affect iron absorption.
4. Recovery period after acute blood loss
After acute massive bleeding, timely supplementation of iron dextran is required to restore hematopoietic function.
