Its main component is iron, which is the core element of hemoglobin and myoglobin. Hemoglobin and myoglobin are responsible for oxygen transport and supply in animals, respectively. Since injectable iron is absorbed more rapidly than oral iron, it provides an efficient way to supplement iron for piglets. The generic name of this drug is Dextran Iron Injection, and the trade name is Selenium-containing Shengxuesu. Its dark brown colloidal solution form makes it not only easy to identify but also has significant pharmacological effects.
Indications and Usage
This drug is especially suitable for treating iron deficiency anemia in piglets. Effectiveness can be seen after a single deep intramuscular injection. It is recommended to inject on days 1, 7, and 14 or days 2, 5, and 8 after birth, with doses of 0.5ml, 1ml, or 1.5ml. This effectively prevents piglets from developing iron deficiency anemia, edema disease, and diarrhea, improving survival rates and weaning weight.
Disease Response Measures
When piglets face threats from Eperythrozoonosis or blood parasitic diseases, it is recommended to inject 2ml of Dextran Iron Injection once, which helps the sick animals recover quickly.

Although rare, piglets may sometimes experience muscle weakness after iron injection, which in severe cases can lead to instability when standing or even death. Therefore, the intramuscular injection dose must be strictly controlled during use. Deep intramuscular injection is also recommended to reduce discomfort. For pigs older than 4 weeks, injection of this product may cause discoloration of the gluteal muscles. Additionally, the drug should be properly protected from freezing and used within the expiration date, as prolonged storage may cause precipitation.

Each 10ml contains 1g of iron element. Each box contains 10 vials of 10ml, and each carton contains 30 boxes. The drug should be stored in a light-protected environment, with a shelf life of 2 years, following the standards of the 2010 edition of the Veterinary Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China.
